On April 24, the Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress (GOPIP) Ambassadors hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the exciting expansion of Cerro Grande Meat Market — a beloved local business making big moves in our community.

Surrounded by family, supporters, and community leaders, Jose Lopez shared the inspiring story behind the growth:

“We originally opened in 2011, and then reopened in 2019 after the pandemic. Since then, we haven’t fully finished construction, because we planned for greater success with some of our products and realized we needed a larger space. That’s why we bought the building next to our original location.
We’ve made significant progress on that building and expanded the store, making it larger. Before, you could walk through the other side, but now that’s no longer possible — except on Saturdays and Sundays — because it gets so busy.
It’s been a great journey, and this is a special moment as we work to make the store even better.”
